Stacy Frank, Printmaker

Hand-pulled etchings, lithos and monoprints.

For years I commuted along highway one from Santa Cruz to Sausalito. In the dawn light the curling, dried blossoms of anise flowers were silhouetted against the fog. So many mornings were spent watching these tall plants growing in the ditches along the road that I decided to devote a series of prints to them. Over several months I etched the abstract shapes onto ten separate zinc plates using a combination of sugar lift, aquatint and acid line etch. These plates were used with monotypes on plexiglass plates to create a variety of prints.
