One day I was working on a drawing of underwater fish swimming amid colorful bubbles. The transparent layers and fun dancing shapes appealed to me so I decided to etch plates in this theme. Over several months I etched a dozen perfectly square, five inch by five inch zinc plates in aquatint and acid line etch. The benefit of the square plates are clear - they can be oriented in four different directions, with an abstract image like bubbles you get four plates in one.
