I've been inspired to do a series of prints with many layers that reflect the shape of dried eucalyptus buds. In the beginning of the summer I collected a few branches while out on a walk with Izzy, our yellow lab. The backgrounds on many of these prints are created with collagraph plates - plastic plates onto which watered down acrylic gel medium was sprayed and splattered. While the liquid was wet a scattering of carborundum grit was spread over top. These gritty particles hold the ink and the raised areas of gel medium create their own patterns. The bud patterns are created with multiple polyester lithography plates and some prints are finished off with water color or other paint. This has been a fun series to create, I hope you enjoy!
